This Year’s Keynote Speaker
Right Honourable Brooke van Velden, Workplace Relations and Safety Hon Brooke van Velden is the Minister of Internal Affairs and for Workplace Relations and Safety. Qualified in international trade and economics, Brooke has also been a factory worker and corporate affairs consultant. She was elected to Parliament as an ACT Party MP in 2020, returning as MP for Tāmaki in 2023.

Luke Bird is a charismatic and award-winning vocalist with a passion for musical theatre, opera, and comedy. His infectious energy and sharp wit make him a standout entertainer, celebrated for his versatility across multiple performance disciplines.
A graduate with a Bachelor’s Degree in Performing Arts, Luke’s career has been shaped by his flair for storytelling and his dynamic stage presence. From his exuberant portrayal of Widow Twankey in Aladdin to sharing the stage with New Zealand’s finest operatic talents, he has built a career defined by creativity and excellence. Trained under the esteemed NZ Opera Diva, Joan Kennaway QSM, Luke has performed at prestigious events such as the Lockwood NZ Aria competitions, the 2012 NZ Opera Rigoletto, and as a guest artist for Opera in the Park and Opera in the Garden. His operatic journey has seen him perform alongside luminaries like Ben Makisi, Lilia Carpinelli, Dame Malvina Major, and Dame Helen Medlyn, as well as being a regular feature in Coca-Cola Christmas in the Park.
Luke’s theatrical career spans some of the most iconic musicals, including Hairspray, Beauty and the Beast, Jekyll and Hyde, The Full Monty, and Cabaret. His role as Monsieur André in The Phantom of the Opera showcased his talent for bringing comedic yet nuanced characters to life. In Cats, he played Bustopher Jones, sharing the stage with renowned performers Tina Cross and Shane Cortese. His versatility extends to modern theatre productions, including his work with Auckland Theatre Company in Shrew’d and a celebrated turn as Gabriel Von Eisenstein in Die Fledermaus.

Brendan Dooley, described by The Press as “A New Generation of Talent Already Snapping The Heels Of Established Acts” he combines his skillset of world-class and never-before-seen magic with quick wit comedy, insane mind-reading, cheeky pickpocketing and plenty of audience participation to create the ultimate entertainment experience that has made him an audience favourite worldwide!
On top of hundreds of live appearances under his belt, Brendan has been awarded as “NZ’s Top Comedy Magician” being the youngest ever recipient, starred on the world’s longest running magic show for the past 5 years and more recently Brendan was headlining at the prestigious “World Famous Magic Castle” in Hollywood, California which is the No. 1 place to see the best magicians in the world, with a highly acclaimed 30 show run. This was completed at the age of only twenty-two, making him one of their youngest ever headliners.
Tony Lyall MC for the dinner and comedic relief! Tony is one of New Zealand’s busiest comedians and his mix of high energy storytelling, off the cuff crowd work and general good times vibe makes him a crowd favourite on any stage he appears on.
Tony is the match day MC for the Black Caps, has been seen on 7 Days, The Project, and The New Zealand Comedy Gala, is a member of the Alternative Commentary Collective and can be heard on Radio Hauraki. Originally from Blenheim, Tony now lives in West Auckland with his three kids where he often remembers to put the bins out on time.

Helen Corban, Business Productivity Coach, REACH Potential, has 27 years of experience in training and coaching, across a wide range of industries, including engineering, manufacturing, sport, beauty, retail, financial services, interior design, motorsport, and construction, in both corporate and SME environments.
To Helen, being a lifelong learner is one of the keys to a successful life, along with a growth mindset and positive attitude. Helen comes from a family that prioritised education, though when she initially went to university, it was only because of the expectation. I ended up with a Bachelor of Arts in Education (and Psychology), which has been invaluable as she discovered early on that I love to teach, train, mentor and coach people.

Ian Johnson, with a career spanning New Zealand, Australia, and the UK, is known for his practical approach and problem-solving mindset. Over three decades, he has helped medium-to-large organisations align their Time and Attendance processes with payroll, ensuring compliance with legislation such as the Holidays Act.
When he’s not streamlining systems, Ian makes the most of his own “relevant daily pay” by kayaking, paddleboarding, or sailing with family and friends.

Lisa Knight, Bachelor of Laws, Commerce, and Barrister and Solicitor of the High Court of New Zealand, is a Director in KPMG’s People, Employment and Mobility Tax team. She specialises in employment tax issues, taxation of individuals, and supporting organisations to manage the complex tax implications of employees working across borders.
She advises corporations on the tax implications of employee share schemes and updating them to reflect changes in tax rules. This includes developing schemes that align with strategic objectives while achieving the desired tax outcomes.
Willy Blurb, with over 4 years of experience at Robert Walters across London and Auckland, is committed to building long-term relationships and delivering consistently exceptional service for his clients and candidates.

John Rynearson manages Alxemy’s Dayforce practice, leading a team of consultants and working closely with clients, partners, and prospects to deliver workforce management solutions that improve how people work.

She currently works at Inland Revenue, managing key initiatives.
Ahvee Ram is a Labour Inspector in the Northern Compliance Team, Auckland. He has 2.5 years of experience and previously advised employers on employment relations obligations.
His work focuses on helping create fair workplaces, protecting employee rights, and improving employer compliance.
Alan Reid has been part of the Labour Inspectorate since 2006.
A Senior Labour Inspector in the Compliance Central team (Hamilton), he focuses on proactive compliance work, audits, checks, and educational engagements.
DD Gandhiswami is a Senior Labour Inspector with MBIE’s Northern Compliance Team (Tāmaki Makaurau).
With 3 years in the role, he focuses on employment standards compliance and helping employers understand that strong compliance is an advantage, not a cost.
Sarvesh Datt, Manager of Operations, Payments, is responsible for leading the delivery of client and provider payment decisions to support quality health outcomes. This role ensures the Operations Payments team is integrated and aligned with other service delivery functions, oversees complex eligibility assessments, and drives a high-quality customer experience while fostering continuous improvement and change leadership.
I’ve worked at ACC for almost 22 years. I spent that time in a variety of senior leadership roles, leading and implementing transformational and behavioural change focused on supporting better outcomes for clients.
Pip McDonald is Client Service Leader, responsible for leading a group of leaders who empower their teams to provide a seamless, consistent, and high-quality customer experience, which supports recovery outcomes for clients while fostering an engaged workforce aligned with organisational goals.
I’ve worked for ACC for 21 years, and I’ve held various roles that have been directly or indirectly supporting clients to achieve their recovery goals. For the past 18 months, I’ve been with Client Payments, gaining more knowledge about the complexities of our business and developing great leaders.
Georgia Drewer is a Payment Assessor-responsible for reviewing and confirming clients’ eligibility for various payment entitlements, ensuring accurate, timely, and consistent decisions so that clients receive the financial support they are entitled to.
I’ve been with ACC for just over 3 years, with over 2 years’ experience as a Payment Assessor, I’m passionate about improving processes to benefit our clients and ACC. Recently I’ve been working to help with solve complexities within the Employer Reimbursement Agreement (ERA) work.
Miya Sawyer, Payment Assessor, is responsible for reviewing and confirming clients’ eligibility for various payment entitlements, ensuring accurate, timely, and consistent decisions so that clients receive the financial support they are entitled to.
For the past 2.5 years, I’ve worked in payments across a variety of work types. I enjoy problem-solving and thrive working through complex claims to deliver the best possible outcomes for our clients so they can focus on their recovery.
David Jenkins, NZPPA CEO (BBS, BEd, BAppSci, GradDipALT), formed NZPPA in 2007 to support payroll professionals across New Zealand.
