Q: An employee was rostered to work on Easter Monday (otherwise working day) they worked 4.25 hours of an 8 hour shift then went home sick – is this employee entitled to the hours worked at PH rate plus an alternative leave day and then the remaining hours of the shift as PH not worked?
A: It would be 4.25 x 1.5 and the alt day (if an otherwise working day). You cannot be on sick leave on a public holiday.
Also when an employee works on a PH they get paid for actual hours worked.
Q: the employee is asking about the remaining 3.75 hours that she would have worked had she not gone home sick, I know sick leave doesn’t apply on a PH but does she get paid those 3.75 hours as statutory holiday on top of the 4.25 statutory worked?
A: No it is work it or take it but not both. The ALT day is the other compensation she has received.
