Q: I can’t seem to find relevant guidance for my query below. Perhaps you can help
The employee is on a salary. They are contracted for a 47.5-hour week, over 5 days. Mon-Fri; 6am-6 pm
They have 7 days of leave entitlement. They have put in a leave request for a day’s annual leave next week Friday. Which has been approved.
However, the employee is now saying that they need to be at work for 4.5 hours and would like to use up a half day of annual leave.
My inclination is to just pay full days leave entitlement as that is what was already agreed, and leave is paid in day units?
A: Annual leave is in weeks, but it is standard practice to provide a day or less than a day as a portion of a week. I would pay them annual leave for the portion of the day and their salary payment for the hours worked.
