Parental leave – Continuous employment query for redundancy payment

Q: Do primary care leave (26 weeks) and extended parental leave (up to 52 weeks) affect continuous service?

We are looking into service years for redundancy calculation; the said employee was on parental leave twice during her tenure


A: Any period of parental leave provided under the Parental Leave and Employment Protection Act is counted as continuous employment under the Holidays Act (Section 16).
