Q: We have a staff member who was the Manager of a department and has been away on Parental leave.
She has returned this week but only on a part time basis due to childcare issues and is working in a different department and to be on a lower hourly rate.
We plan to keep her option to return to her Mgrs role or 2IC until February 2024.
Are you able to advise how we can pay her for this work she is doing on a separate basis (thinking of doing a casual contract) but keeping her leave info etc the same when potential return in February.
A: The easiest way is to provide her with a variation to agreement (could just be included as a letter to the employee) stating the present part time role, rate of pay that has been agreed and the timeframe on when her normal role or 2IC role will be required to be taken.
This is all continuous employment so while part time leave relates to the week and days they work part time, and when they return to their other role leave converts to the week and days.
