NZ Redundancy Calculation

Q: Could I please ask in NZ, anything to pay attention when calculating the final pay?

I understand that there is already an agreement to pay 4 week notice between company and employee.

Any other things we need to pay by law?

Since this is my first NZ redundancy case, any advice would be appreciated


A: In a final pay it would include:

By Law:

  • Any unused annual holiday entitlement (paid out at the greater of AWE and OWP)
  • Alternative holidays getting paid out (paid at RDP or ADP if the day cannot be defined)
  • 8% of gross earnings (from start date to end date less than 12 months) or 8% of gross earnings from the last entitlement date to end date.

Anything provided by agreement (you will need to check the employees employment agreement).
