Casual employee

Q: Just wanted to check we have a fixed-term causal employee who started last week.

She is only working T W and Th until the end of Feb 2025, she will be paid her hourly rate and 8% pay as you go.

As she just started on the 10th of December should she be entitled to the 25th and 26th 1st and 2nd PHOL’s?

Public Holidays
You are entitled to paid leave on the public holidays referred to in the Holidays Act 2003, provided that the public holiday falls on a day that would otherwise be a normal working day for You. If You are expressly required by your manager to work on a public holiday, You will be paid time and a half of your relevant daily pay or average daily pay (as applicable) for the time actually worked, and You will be given a full day’s alternative holiday. You must obtain express permission from the Employer if You intend to work on a public holiday but have not been already directed to work by the Employer on that day.

Sick Leave
As you are employed for a period of less than six months, you will not become entitled to sick leave during the term of this agreement.


A: Yes they will get the PHs as they are otherwise working days for the employee as per their fixed-term agreement.
