Q: I would like to clarify on annual leave cash-up.
I have a staff member who started in April 2020.
He has taken 24 hrs leave in Dec 2022.
He has an excessive balance of 459.10 hrs.
We have suggested to him to cash up some of his entitled leave.
Please can you advise if the below calculation I have is correct.
Breakdown on cash-up
1 year entitlement April 2021 = 5 days leave to cash up
1 year entitlement April 2022 = 5 days leave to cash up
1 year entitlement April 2023 = 5 days leave to cash up
Total cash up 15 days leave = 120 hrs
Can then cash up 5 more days after April 2024.
A: The employee can only cash up (if the employee agrees) is 1 week of current entitlement in the current entitlement year. Any previous entitlement year cannot be cashed up.
Very important the request is in writing and kept on file and the request to approved by the employer.
