Q: I just wonder in New Zealand, can employee ask the employer to pay the salary to a bank account which is not under their name? If yes, what documentation would we need to get in order to protect the company?
As I have heard that if a person had bad credit in the past, it could be difficult to get a traditional bank account in New Zealand.
A: No, the Wages Protection Act states it must be in their name:
9 Agreement as to manner of payment of wages
(1)
An employer may,—
(a) with the written consent of a worker; or
(b) on the written request of a worker,—
pay to that worker by postal order, money order, specified cheque, or lodgement at a financial institution to the credit of an account standing in the name of that worker or in the name of that worker and some other person or persons jointly, any wages that have become payable to that worker.
