2021 Payroll Excellence Awards

*Nominations open on 27 September 2021 and close on 25th October 2021.

Payroll practitioners are the unsung heroes of business. They manage one of the largest costs an employer has while applying legislation, deadlines and a changing work environment, all for the purpose of paying employees correctly and on time.

There are five category awards that make up the NZPPA payroll industry awards:

Payroll Leader of the Year 2021

This award recognises the payroll leader who has shown exceptional leadership in any or all of the following areas: development of their team, promotion of payroll to the rest of the business, achieving recognised results for payroll in compliance, cost effectiveness or best practice over the last 12 months.

Payroll Professional of the Year 2021

This award recognises the payroll professional who is an exceptional performer and has gone above and beyond in their role as a payroll professional to assist the business, the employees they pay or even in developing the payroll industry.

Payroll Team of the Year 2021

This award recognises the payroll team that together has performed exceptionally for the business and its employees, achieving a business outcome (increased productivity, cost savings etc.) over the last 12 months.

Payroll Outsourced Provider of the Year 2021

This award recognises an outsourced payroll provider that processes payroll on behalf of an employer, has provided exceptional service to the business and has helped in their work to achieve an essential outcome that aids payroll regarding compliance, cost effectiveness or best practice.

*Any payroll provider can be nominated but payroll providers cannot nominate their own business.

Payroll System Provider of the Year 2021

This award recognises a payroll software provider that delivers exceptional service to a business. This provider has helped and assisted a payroll professional in their work to achieve an essential outcome, or has provided payroll tools and functionality that aids payroll regarding compliance, cost effectiveness or best practice.

*Any payroll provider can be nominated but payroll providers cannot nominate their own business.

Please note: Payroll Outsourced Provider and Payroll System Provider awards are only available to NZ-based providers.

Winners will be announced in the last online session of the NZPPA 14th Annual Payroll Conference on the 5 November 2021. The award winners will be contacted prior to the conference so they can attend online to receive their awards.

Entering these awards allows the wider payroll industry to acknowledge and celebrate payroll excellence and promotes payroll as a profession in NZ.

NZPPA Awards

Nominations for the NZPPA awards open on the 27 September 2021.

The aim of the NZPPA awards is to celebrate the exceptional work payroll leaders, individuals, teams and payroll suppliers do within the New Zealand payroll industry.

Please note: 

For an award to be awarded there must be at least 3 nominations in the category. NZPPA can if there are fewer combine categories so an award can still be awarded if possible.

 

Payroll Outsourced Provider and Payroll System Provider awards are only available to NZ-based providers.

 

How to apply or nominate for this year’s awards

Who can enter?

Any person involved in NZ payroll based in NZ is eligible to enter, whether they are a member of the NZPPA or not.

How to enter?

Payroll Leader, Practitioner and Payroll Team Awards:

To apply for Payroll Leader, Practitioner or Payroll Team of the Year awards applicants must provide the following:

Clearly state what award you are applying for (payroll leader, practitioner or team).

State in detail (at least) three examples of how exceptional work in payroll has been achieved, how it has impacted on payroll, the business or employees.

The immediate manager of the payroll leader, practitioner or team must endorse the award application.

Include a photo of the individual leader, practitioner or team (to be used on the NZPPA website and in ePayroll).

Payroll Provider (Outsourced & Payroll System) of the Year Award

To nominate you must provide the following:

The name of the payroll provider you are nominating and the award category – Outsourced or Payroll System Provider of the Year. A combined nomination will not be accepted.

State in detail why this payroll provider should be the winner based on any of the following: exceptional service to a business, helping and assisting a payroll practitioner in their work to achieve an essential outcome, or providing payroll tools and functionality that aids payroll in regard to compliance, cost effectiveness or functionality.

Judging process and confidentiality

Who are the judges?

Each award is judged by three judges that are NZPPA certified payroll professionals (from any of the five certification levels). Judges cannot be involved in a panel if they have a made an application for the specific award.

*NZPPA employees are excluded from the judging panels and the decision-making process.

What are the judges looking for?

The judges are seeking to recognise the exceptional contribution of a payroll leader, individual, team or payroll provider that has demonstrated great execution of good business ideas and practices, while having developed and remained focused on their future direction.

Entry confidentiality

For the awards process to be effective, there must be unquestionable fairness and objectivity for all concerned.

All award applications are treated as confidential by the organising team and judges.

The awards management process is comprised of employees of the NZPPA, who are impartial and are not involved in the selection of award winners.

Judges will be asked to declare any conflicts of interest and if necessary alternative judging arrangements will be made.

Each judge has volunteered their time without compensation and is committed to assist with the success of the awards.

Judging decisions remain confidential to judges and no correspondence will be entered into regarding the outcome of the awards.

A NZPPA judging panel will assess all applications made.

Applications for this year’s awards will be accepted from 27th September 2021 and close on 25th October 2021.

2021 Payroll Excellence Awards Presentation

The awards will be presented on the 5th November 2021 during the NZPPA 14th Annual Payroll Conference being held as a virtual event in 2021.
