Purpose:
Understanding and applying the rules, risks and requirements of employee leave is an essential skill for any organisation.  Without knowledge of the types of leave, when employees become eligible, and what they should be paid it can become very costly with potential legal challenges possible.
Every participant will receive comprehensive course manuals, with numerous references and examples.  As with all NZPPA courses participants will have access after the course to the NZPPA PayTech Advice line (even non-members will have complimentary access).

  • Volunteers Employment Protection Act 1973
  • Civil Defence Emergency Management Act 2002
  • Leave liability (what it is and how to manage it)
  • How is leave cashed up on termination
  • Leave forms and keeping Leave Records

  • Why do it and ensuring a return on investment
  • Giving extra annual holidays, sick and bereavement leave
  • Study leave
  • Discretionary Leave
  • Time Off In Lieu
  • Long Service Leave
  • Birthday, domestic and other types of leave

Learning outcomes:

  1. Identify differences between employee leave entitlements from law and by agreement.
  2. Apply the legislative requirements of leave entitlements and identify the risks involved if not followed.
  3. Identify what calculations must be used for leave entitlements provided by law.
  4. Report back on the cost of leave provided by law and by agreement.
